1987 Volkswagen Vanagon

Westfalia Weekender

Originally brought to us as a good condition, low mileage van, the customers goal was to have a one of a kind look while still being fun to drive. The build of the vehicle began with a full service inspection and removal of the engine and transmission. While we rebuilt the engine and parts were ordered, the van was moved to our body shop where it was further disassembled. The pop top was pulled, all of thee cladding came off, and the windows were removed. After some minor rust repair was performed in all of the normal place the van received a new coat of paint.

The body cladding and pop top were color matched to the Titian Red of the body to tie everything together. With a rebuilt engine, transmission, and complete front and rear suspension in hand, the bus was moved back to the service side. A complete refresh of the suspension front and rear was performed while the sway bar and front upper control arms were upgraded. All new brake components including braided stainless lines were installed. The engine, having received all new coolant lines, new AMC heads that had been worked over at a local machine shop, and the obligatory new fuel lines and aluminum fuel rails, slotted easily into the engine bay. A new stainless steel exhaust system was installed to give it a deeper tone. Stainless coolant lines were run to the front. Vision was improved with installation of a South African Grille and Headlights and High Output Head Light Relay Kit. At this time our attention was turned to the interior. A new 9 piece front carpet kit in Coco Brown was installed. The pop top canvas was replaced with an acrylic 3 window tent. An Alpine Double DIN head unit was mounted in the dash and all four speakers in the bus were replaced with compound speakers run off of an inline amp. Additional sound is given through a combination subwoofer and amplifier mounted inside the jump seat. The in dash 12v Socket was replaced with a dual USB charger wired to the Auxiliary battery. An additional USB charger and 12v socket were added to the jump seat base. Finished off with custom wheel adaptors, refinished Porsche twist wheels and Porsche 944 steering wheel, you won't find another bus like it.
